Welcome to the
Epping Forest U3A Website

Epping
Epping Forest is the largest public open space in the London area, at almost 6,000 acres. As well as being a popular area for recreation and enjoyment, it is also of national and international conservation importance with two-thirds of it being designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Area of Conservation.

Epping itself is a thriving market town on the outskirts of London with good links into the capital, as well as easy access to the rest of Essex and Hertfordshire.

U3A
The U3A is a learning and social co-operative made up of independent groups set up and run on a voluntary basis by the members. There are no assessments or qualifications to be gained and the accent is on learning for pleasure, drawing on the skills and knowledge of the members. In Epping Forest U3A we have over 60 groups covering a diverse range of subjects including art, mathematics, languages, music, history, board games, crafts, wildlife walks, computing and photography to mention but a few, plus a wide range of social activities. Full details can be found in our prospectus.

For more information on the history and ethos of U3As, visit the National U3A website. (See "Links" on the left.)

Epping Forest U3A
EFU3A was formed in 1991 by Jack, who is still our Life President. It has proved so popular that during our lifetime we have helped the formation of three other U3As, using our overspill of members and those on our waiting list. We currently have a membership of around 750. At the heart of our organisational structure is a Committee which is 11 strong. We have a regular monthly meeting with visiting speakers, which is held in Theydon Bois Village Hall usually on the first Monday of each month. For more information please e-mail Carol, our Chairman: carol@efu3a.org.uk
